Nintendo 3DS is Nintendo's portable gaming system. It was released in February 26, 2011 in Japan and March 27, 2011 in North America. It has shipped 45.42 million units (as of September 30, 2014). It is able to run both Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS games on it, and has a large selection of Virtual Console and other games on the eShop. Its selling point is that it can run games in 3D without 3D glasses. The best selling games on it are Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, which have sold 12 million copies. The Nintendo 3DS can also play Nintendo DSi games but is not compatible with New Nintendo 3DS games (like XenoBlade Chronicles 3D) due to the increased processing power on the newer models and the fact that previous Nintendo 3DS's cannot post screenshots to Miiverse. The Nintendo 3DS currently has 4 predecessors.

Nintendo 3DS also offers Miiverse unlike the Wii U version, which you cannot receive personal messages from other users. In addition, because its purpose is for an individual, rather than it being a family system, only one NNID can be registered and linked to it, unless the user performs a system format.

The Nintendo 3DS has many variations in exact order which are:

  • Nintendo 3DS
  • Nintendo 3DS XL
  • Nintendo 2DS (without the 3D feature)
  • New Nintendo 3DS XL
  • New Nintendo 3DS
